4-cycle rear width

I would like to see 4-cycle maximum rear width increased to 53 inches from the current 50 inches. I think the karts look ridiculous with the cadet rear bumper and the rear wheels so far inside the sidepods. The 50 inch rule is outdated from when American chassis were the standard. There are Junior classes that are allowed to be 53" so why not 4-cycle senior?

Pretty much any chassis used that is not specifically designed for 4-cycle has to have the axle cut to make the 50 inch rule. I figure by at least bringing this up on the forum that the wheels of change could begin or maybe this will get shot down.

In addition to the width rule, the limitation on rim width is also outdated.

Hey John

The 7:10 rear tire will only slow you down but put a 600 on a 210 rear wheel now you can play a little....

The rear width could be a little wider for sure....not sure I would run it much though.....bin there dun that not faster most of the time.

Most of the guys here have been raiding the used tire bin for their 4-cycle tires which are almost all Mojo's. This makes for an incredibly low cost season of racing. Our numbers at CKRC for 4 cycle have almost doubled to 12-14 racers in the last 2 years. With the LO206 powerplant voted in as the only point scoring engine for 2012, we hope to see close to 20 racers this coming season. The Bridgestone tires work okay but it is pretty hard to compete with free and the Mojo's never really go off on a 4 cycle. Unfortunately, Mojo doesn't make a 6 inch tire. Kart bodywork has changed a great deal since those 4 cycle rules were originally introduced and the 50" (127cm) width rule is outdated making the karts look dysfunctional from the rear view.
Our club disregarded the width rule last year so I have been running 53" for all of our club events. The Bridgestones being narrower was a bit of an adjustment for WCC in Calgary but it wasn't any faster.

i agree with your concept of cheap racing....and guess what.....mojo does make a 180mm tire now......ask joey about it.

it makes good sense to adjust the rule to meet the needs of karters today.

We are 3 races into the season now and I am still living off leftover Mojos. A couple guys have tried the smaller D1 Mojos. Our Senior 4-cycle club entries have blossomed this year with 14 at the seaon opener, 21 at the second race and 24 at the 3rd race. Exceeding our pre-season expectations. We know there are at least another 5 or 6 karts that have not seen the track yet this year.
