With the cold Canadian winter finally giving way to spring weather, the karting season is set to kick into high gear as the 2013 Northern Ontario Karting Championship season opener is set for this coming weekend (May 4-5). Taking place at Innisfil Indy, and utilizing the Launi MindBender Uphill layout, NOKC competitors will take to the track for the first of six rounds after a long off-season.
As a Rotax Max Challenge qualifying series, Rotaxians will be able to get their first punch this weekend for the Canadian Karting Championships later this summer. The NOKC also offers a host of other class options, including 4-Stroke and Shifters, offering something for every karter. Classes offered in the 2013 NOKC include Rotax Micro Max, Rotax Mini Max, Junior Rotax, Senior Rotax, Rotax DD2, Senior 125 Shifter, Novice, Junior Lite 4-Stroke, Junior Heavy 4-Stroke, Senior 4-Stroke and Masters.
Practice is available all week, with official NOKC practice scheduled for Saturday, and race day set for Sunday. Race day fees are $150.00 and include parking and transponder. Tires for the 2013 NOKC are Vega Blue and Mojo, and both are available for purchase at Innisfil Indy. Fuel requirements are Trotter Esso 91 for the 4-Stroke classes, Sunoco ULTRA 94 for the 2-Stroke Rotax classes, track fuel for the 2-Stroke Shifter class.
With an unprecedented prize offering on the table in 2013, karters will not want to miss the NOKC series this season. Race day cash prizes include $1000 split between the first, second, and third place podium finishers for all class that meet a 10-entry minimum. Championship prizes include an extra $5000 cash purse per class if the 2013 series entrant list tops 120 competitors. This $5000 will be divided between the first through 10th place finishers in the championship standings, with $2000 awarded to first place, $1000 to second, $750 to third, $500 to fourth, $250 to fifth and $100 to the sixth through 10th place finishers. Championship podium finishers (places first through third) will also be awarded a championship jacket and trophy. And finally, the 125 Shifter class champion will also be awarded the option to choose between a cool $5000 cash or a funded ride with GP Canada under the team tent for the 2013 SuperKarts! USA SuperNationals. This lucrative and unprecedented championship prize structure will make the NOKC the place to race in 2013.
