Point Pelee Kart Club

Reaching out to racers and families in southwestern Ontario and Michigan, the Point Pelee Kart Club is regarded as a leading kart club. Focused on assisting drivers of all ages and skill level achieve their racing goals and dreams, the competitive yet friendly atmosphere provides the ideal setting for families to work together as team members.


The Point Pelee Karting Club was formed in 2009, but the Track has enjoyed a rich history of Kart Racing, dating back to the late 60's with the Sunparlor Kart Club . Point Pelee Karting the Track, was re-developed in 1998, as has enjoyed hosting such Regional Events as the Ontario Kart Racing Association and Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championships. Prior to 1998, the Track operated as Point Pelee Kartways, and was an annual stop in the Ontario Kart Racing Association for many, many years.

Point Pelee Kart Club alumni of note include Brad Graham, a former NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racer; Greg Rempel, a former Great Lakes FC/CFC Championship driver; as well as karting champions Dale Bonham, Richard Monaghan, Justin Mullins, Checker flag Hall of Fame member George Newman, Dave Patrick, Grant Quinlan, and Jenn Rempel.

The PPKC futher recognizes its history via assorted year-end awards.

The Brian Heron Jr. Award and Jason Willis Award are presented to the members that have shown true sportsmanship in every manner. This person is sincere, and people have benefited from his/her presence. In 2012, it was presented to Cole Cacciavillani (Heron Jr.) and Nick Farough (Jason Willis).

The Calvin Newman Award is given to the parents that have taught the club and their child the importance of being competitive, yet instilling that the day was also important for being with family and friends. Last year it was awarded to Mike & Jodie Kraynack.

The Paul McMillan Award is awarded to the team that has exemplified sportsmanship on and off the track, promoted the sport of karting in a positive manner, and can always be counted on when needed. In 2012, this award went to Ted & Marissa Howell.

The Peter Frydrychowicz Award is given to the Mechanic of the Year. He/she is a person who has given 100% commitment to not only their own racing program, but has assisted fellow club members and competitors, promoting the spirit of friendly competition. The award went to Tibor Ujj in 2012.

The Gord Bonham Award is presented to the individual that has provided a positive contribution to benefit the growth and awareness of the sport of karting. In 2012, the recipient was Max DeAngelis.

The Team Race Ready - George Gilbert Memorial Award honors the individual exemplifying dedication and determination to continuously improve driver skill and equipment preparation in order to become 'race ready' for the best possible results on track. Last season, the award was presented to Lucas Poisson.

The Most Dedicated Club Member Allen Casey Memorial Award honors the individual who has shown total dedication towards racing and towards helping the Point Pelee Kart Club. This individual gives 100% effort and commitment towards whatever task is presented to them. Dale Lajoie earned the award in 2012.

In addition to these awards, the club host an annual Memorial Race every September. (In 2013 the dates are September 7-8.) Families members come out for race and take Tribute Laps with their respective drivers kart number on special flags. Over the past few years this weekend has grown to be an even more special event, as the club has gathered generous sponsorship from Windsor Mobile Wash - Marc Stehle, CF Industrial Cole Cacciavillani, Willis Service Center Glenn Willis, which has enabled the club to offer the PPKC Memorial Shoot-Out, which offers up to $1500 cash to win Sr. 4 Cycle, $500 cash to largest Junior Class, and $500 to next largest Class (Jr or Sr).


Members of the Point Pelee Kart Club have a selection of classes in which to compete and showcase their talents. On tap in 2013 are Novice, Junior 1, Junior, Sr. Medium, and Masters in 4-cycle, as well as TaG Junior, TaG Senior, and TaG Masters in 2-cycle.

Located in Leamington, Ont., the Point Pelee Kart Club facility features a CIK/FIA approved track that has six different configurations that can be used. The nine-corners, 690-foot long front straight, and 28 feet wide 3/4-mile track allows for a mixture of great passing opportunities, and technical challenges to overcome.

The 2013 membership fee is $125. Additional memberships are $50, with Non-Driver memberships $15.

Kart sales, parts, and service are available at the Point Pelee Kart Club facility. In addition, Max DeAngelis of DeAngelis Construction has rent to own program for the new Briggs Lo206 engine, which allows both new and existing racers to keep their initial costs down.

The Point Pelee Kart Club also offers a Briggs rental program at the track.
