Skip Barber Racing School Announces Date and Location of 2013 Karting Scholarship Shootout

This year, the 17th annual Skip Barber Racing School Karting Scholarship Shootout will travel to Sebring International Raceway to scout for the best of the best in the karting world.

For an entry fee of $3,000, the top karters will compete in the 2013 Skip Barber Racing School Karting Scholarship Shootout at Sebring International Raceweay on November 4-6.

In addition to numerous development opportunities, the drivers will compete for scholarships into the 2013-14 Skip Barber Racing School Race Series presented by Mazda. Observed by a panel of motorsports experts, the talented young karters will be coached as they go through a series of tests both on and off the racetrack.

The expert panel will evaluate each driver on on-track performance, off-track presentation and business plan, and effective listening and ability to apply feedback. Participants will also take part in seminars regarding media training, driver development, sponsorship, as well as business basics. Competitors will also gain exposure from the event, with constant media coverage of the shootout.

The Karting Scholarship Shootout is exclusively for karters with no professional auto racing experience and no Skip Barber Racing School race event experience. Racers who do not meet the requirements below can elect to participate in the Skip Barber Racing School Summer or Winter Race Series to qualify for the Race Series Championship Shootout, which awards a grand prize MAZDASPEED Scholarship for the following Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship season.

By limiting the field to strictly karters, Skip Barber Racing School returns to the core commitment of providing scholarship opportunities for karters to advance to professional racing via the Skip Barber Racing School ladder and also the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development ladder. An integral part of the MAZDASPEED Motorsports Development ladder and the Mazda Road to Indy, Skip Barber Racing School allows racers to advance through its system of race schools and race series with the possibility of earning scholarships to move up to the next level at the conclusion of each championship.

The winner of the Karting Scholarship Shootout will receive a full scholarship to compete in the full 2013 Skip Barber Race Series of their choice. The other top four drivers will receive scholarship funds to compete in 2013 Skip Barber Race Series events. The robust scholarship packages associated to the event are part of the $680,000 of driver enhancement scholarships Skip Barber Racing School events and race series reward to talented racers from around the world in 2014.
In addition to the full season in the Skip Barber Racing School 2013-2014 Winter or 2014 Summer Series presented by Mazda awarded to first place, second place gets a $15,000 Race Series scholarship, and third place receives a $10,000 Race Series scholarship. All scholarships funds are spread out over each race event throughout the course of the 2013 season, and cannot be applied to only a few select events. Prizes are non-transferrable and the awards are subject to event rules, available on our website.

To eligible to take part in the 2013 Skip Barber Racing School Karting Scholarship Shootout, the racers must have current outdoor karting experience, have completed a Skip Barber Racing School 3 Day Racing School, or two Advanced Activity days prior to Shootout, and be at least 13 years old and not more than 25 years old at the date of the shootout. In addition having no previous professional racing experience or Skip Barber Racing School racing experience, the participants may only have a maximum of 12 Advanced Activity days (not racing) from the 2011 to 2012 Skip Barber Karting Scholarship Shootout.
