Annual BSRKC Visit to Point Pelee Karting Highly Entertaining

The Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship returned to action over the weekend (July 21-22), with Point Pelee Karting playing host to Event 3. The annual stop in Leamington, Ont., proved to highly-entertaining with plenty of action and multiple winners.

Austin Bisschop (Collison Racing/Birel) was the driver to beat in Honda Junior Medium. After capturing the pole via the best time in the unique Green/White/Checker qualifying format, he won both the pre-final and final. Behind the race winner, Cole Smith-Ledson (Birel) and Ryan Mohan (Birel) emerged from a three kart duel with second and third respectively.

The battle for Rotax/TaG Senior top honors proved to be an entertaining affair. Cory Cacciavillani (CF Racing/Kosmic), the pole winner in qualifying, and Michael Glaze (Innisfil Indy/CMP), the pre-final winner, battled early on. Glaze in the end had more speed, and was able to pull away for the win over Cacciavillani and Brett Rickeard (TonyKart).

Running in conjunction with the Rotax/TaG Senior group, the Rotax/TaG Masters final witnessed Tom Bruce (TonyKart) taking home the victory over Nick Farough (CRG) and Cory French (TonyKart).

The Rotax Junior class had a dominant effort. Clay Van Eerd (TonyKart) led every session at Point Pelee, ending the day with the final win after a good fight with runner-up Zachary Shearer (Innisfil Indy/GP). Completing the top-three was Brayon Strik (Kosmic).

The Senior Medium race featured a strong run by eventual winner Jonathon Treadwell (KnK Kart). Working his way forward following a trying pre-final, he was able to beat Cory Cacciavillani (CF Racing/Birel) and TJ Marshall (Birel) to the checkered flag.

In Briggs & Stratton Junior 1, Cody Kraynack (FirstKart) was the first driver to the line in the final. Showcasing the speed that garnered the pole position, he was able to edge Lucas Poisson (Birel) and Jocelyn Gilbert (Intrepid).

Ciarra Collison (Collison Racing/Birel) continued her run of form in the Novice class. Unbeaten thus far in 2012, she kept the streak alive with the victory over Aaron Turnbull (FirstKart) and Khloe Drummond (Birel).

The Senior Heavy division witnessed some late race drama, as Marc Stehle (TonyKart) captured the win following a pass for the lead with two laps to go. Jonathon Treadwell (KnK Kart), having led the majority of the affair, came home in second, while David Patrick (Birel) completed the podium.

Dale Lajoie (Mac Minarelli) enjoyed a trouble-free run out front in the Briggs & Stratton Senior race, scoring a comfortable win over Duncan Stewart (Mac Minarelli) and Brodie Myer (SodiKart).

The Honda Masters race, which race alongside the Briggs & Stratton Sr. affair, had Sandy Murdock (Arrow) making the most of some attrition to capture the victory ahead of Jerrid Morphy (Birel) and Ronald Henrie (Arrow).

Austin Bisschop (Birel) was the driver to watch in the Junior Lite class, sweeping the weekend for a second event final victory. Roman DeAngelis (Birel) and Cole Smith-Ledson (Birel) joined in the podium celebrations following a multi-kart fight for the two places.

The Senior Lite final featured plenty of action, but ultimately Kevin Monteith (REM/Birel) emerged with the win. The fast qualifier was able to pass pre-final winner Cory Cacciavillani (CF Racing/Birel) early on and hold off a late race challenge from the kart behind for the win. Jonathon Treadwell (KnK Kart) completed the top-three following some great dicing for position.

The Junior Heavy class had plenty of action for the fans at Point Pelee to enjoy. Clay Van Eerd (Birel) added another win to his weekend tally, steadily moving forward as the race progressed, before completing a last lap pass for a narrow victory. In what was three-wide finish, Myles Tyson (REM/Birel) was next to the stripe, just edging Jaret Stewart (Birel), who had captured the pole and the pre-final win.

The Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship title chases resume with the prestigious Bear Hunt Races at Shannonville Motorsports Park.
