As part of eKartingNews.ca's continuing initiative to promote karting in Canada, we have created a Driver of the Month award. Each month, the EKN.ca staff will select one driver who's accomplishments deserve to be highlighted via the Driver of the Month profile.
The Rotax Senior class in Canada is one of the premier proving grounds in North American karting, with top drivers going head-to-head for supremacy in a variety of chassis. In order to succeed, a racer needs not only raw talent behind the wheel, but physical and mental strength to overcome setbacks and develop as a driver. Among the many talented drivers doing that on a regular basis is Quebec's Steven Szigeti, who is the eKartingNews.com Driver of the Month for June.
For Szigeti, the 2012 season has already been one of success. Entering the month of June, Steven had already won a race in the off-season Florida Winter Tour en route to second in the title fight, and he stood on the podium in the opening round of the Quebec Cup and the season-opening doubleheader of the Eastern Canadian Karting Championships (ECKC) in May. That, however, was just the start of things. This past month, Szigeti further raised his game, making multiple trips to the top step of the podium. The start of June witnessed the Tony Kart driver capturing the pole and win in the second round of the Quebec Cup at the Mont St. Hilaire Karting facility in Quebec. Remaining in 'La Belle Province', Szigeti continued his winning ways at the tricky ICAR karting track during the third round of the ECKC series. After just missing out on the top-spot in both qualifying and the Prefinal, Szigeti was the first driver to the stripe in the main event. While the third installment of the Quebec Cup at ICAR, which was held that same weekend, didn't go quite as planned, the Longueuil-based driver ended the month of June as not only the driver to beat in the Rotax Senior class, but also as the EKN.ca Driver of the Month.
