On Sunday (May 27) the weather was windy and overcast for race 2 of the Manitoba Karting Association Championship at Gimli Motorsport Park. The sponsor for Race 2 was NAPA Auto Parts.
It started raining during practice then stopped during qualifying, and the track stated dry up for to the second last Pre-Final, then it started to pour again. A wet race was declared and all the drivers rushed back to their pits to switch to rain tires and their wet weather set-ups.
In the dry at race 1, all the classes had close battles for the lead, not so for race 2 in the rain. The drivers who had the best rain set-up and wet weather driving skills dominated their classes. The only class that had a close finish was Rotax Mini Max, with Jeff Fulham edging out Garrett Gulenchyn for the win, with Stephen Bachalo finishing third. Despite the rain most of the drivers drove quite well considering it was their first wet race.
The Junior 1 Four Stroke race was won by Robert Schiewe, over Jillian Berard and Brad Bachalo.
Junior 2 Four Stroke witnessed Garrett Gulenchyn taking the checkered flag first, ahead of Michael Copp and Wyatt Lajoie.
In Senior Four Stroke, it was Yakov Zaretskin who emerged with the victory, beating Travis MacDonald and Jared McDonald.
Brandon Berard was the victor Microx Max, leading Logan McDonald and Rylan Despins to the stripe.
Junior Rotax had John Buzza taking home the win, in front of Jordan Brown and Alexis Budel.
Senior Rotax featured Jeff Bachalo out front at the checkered flag, ahead of Josh Zilkie.
The next Manitoba Karting Association Championship race is on June 3rd, at Gimli Motorsport Park. For more information on the MKA, visit http://www.manitobakarting.ca |
