Canadian Gianmarco Raimondo obtained his maiden victory in the European F3 Open on Sunday (May 27) at Nürburgring. Raimondo is making his debut in the series this season, but the RP Motorsport´s driver has shown his speed almost every race.

Canada´s driver set a new pole position in the morning, beating by slightly margin both Facu Regalia (Campos Racing) and Niccolò Schirò (RP Motorsport). After a bad start in race one of the German doubleheader, Raimondo was determined not to lose the lead in race two, getting away without any mistakes. Regalia was second but, later on lap one, a small off-track by Argentine driver was enough to be overtaken by Sam Dejonghe (Team West-Tec), who won race one at Nürburgring, as well and Schirò.

Raimondo´s race pace was almost unachievable by anyone else, grating a gap at the front of the field. In the meantime Dejonghe was overtaken by Schirò on lap four and one lap later by Regalia. Raimondo managed his difference and although Schirò and Regalia came closer in the late stages of the race, they couldn´t prevent his victory. Schirò was second, concluding an impressive weekend, with Regalia finishing third, earning his first podium finish in a return to Campos Racing in the European F3 Open series. Dejonghe was fourth, which is a good result after winning race one. Emilio de Villota Motorsport's Mans Grenhagen and Juan Carlos Sistos were next. The Swedish racer overtook Sistos on the sixth lap. Matteo Beretta (Cedars Auto Sport) was seventh, with the Italian passing Kevin Giovesi (DAV Racing) by the end of the race. Giovesi and his Dallara F308 were winners in the Cup class, a podium completed by Alexandre Cougnaud (Top F3) and Jordan Oon (Team West-Tec).

Next venue for the European F3 Open is the Circuit Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium on June 23-24.
