| Mosport International Karting Association Season Ready to Go |
The first race weekend of the 2012 Mosport International Karting Association season is upon us, now entering its fifth year of competition at the famous Mosport International Raceway located just north of Bowmanville, Ont.
As has been the tradition, the season will open on the “short track with bowl” configuration. Training Day is on Saturday (April 21), with the opening race taking place on Sunday (April 22).
Training Day is mandatory for all drivers who are new to Club karting. The schedule for the Training Day is as follows:
8:45 am – Track Walk
9:00 am – Classroom Sessions and Rookie Test
11:00 am – Pre-Tech Inspection of Karts
12:00 am – Two 10 minute on-track sessions on the Super Short Layout.
For everyone else, practice is open starting at 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the track being closed for the two Training Day sessions. Tech will also be available for all competitors to ensure your equipment is up to 2012 spec. Register for the race is also open on Saturday as well. Cost for practice is $55.
As for the race itself on Sunday, there are a few new things transpiring. First, is the MIKA debut of the Briggs and Stratton LO206 class. Secondly, is heat racing instead of qualifying for the four-cycle classes. Please ensure you draw a number at registration.
The race order is as follows:
Briggs and Stratton LO206 Senior
Honda Junior Light
Honda Junior Heavy
Honda Senior
Honda Masters
Rotax Mini-Max
Rotax Junior
Rotax Senior
Rotax Masters
Rotax DD2/Shifters
All Four Cycle classes, Rotax Mini-Max, and Rotax Masters will be running on Vega Blue rubber, while the other Rotax classes will be on MoJo rubber.
Registration is open at 7:30 am, with the Drivers Meeting being called at 8:45 am. Practice will being at 9:00 am with the Briggs and Stratton Senior class. Entry fee is $70 for members and $80 for non-members.
The 2012 Supplemental Rules have be posted to http://www.mosportinternationalkarting.com , with the only changes being to the Honda classes. Taiwan valve springs will now pass post race tech, the sensitivity of the oil sniffer has been turned up which effects a few brands of oil and the 2012 Honda GX200 will not be allowed this season. This puts the club in line with the other Honda clubs in the province.
