Jesse Lazare proved that all his off season preparations for the Florida Winter Tour was well worth the effort last weekend when he scored a dramatic third place finish in Sunday's Rotax Max Junior finale.

Lazare, who had run in the top five all weekend, was put on his back foot in the prefinal when he was punted off the track in the second corner of the first lap. "That accident put me in a difficult position," Lazare said. Lazare was able to recover from the spin, but he was back in 23rd position. A great drive got him up to 14th by the end of the prefinal.

"I had speed on my side, so I thought that in the final, I would be able to make a good charge forward that could get me a podium in the final."

In the final, Lazare put on an intense drive forward that saw him move up to seventh by the end of the first lap, then up to third by the end of the second lap. "I had a great start, and was fast at the beginning of the race," Lazare said.

"By the middle of the race, my pace had slowed a bit, and that had me a little bit worried," Lazare added. That lost pace allowed the fourth and fifth place drivers to catch the young Canadian in the dying laps. Heading into the final hairpin on the last lap, Lazare braked last of the three and was able to hold on to third as they crossed the line.

A similar result should have been had on Saturday, as Lazare finished near the front, but a penalty dropped him down the order.

Overall, Lazare was satisfied with the result, but not happy with it. "Its always difficult when you know you have the speed to win, but racing luck comes into play - that is what happened on both days. Still, I have to thank Alex and Mike along with my PSL Karting team, for all their hard work. They gave me a great CRG kart both days, and now I look forward to the next race weekend."

Next up for Lazare is the CKI race at Homestead Florida.
